Nanowire Group Logo

Jessica Doherty, a post-graduate student in the group recently synthesised some Ge-Sn nanowires.  A cluster of them was found to resemble our group logo! These GeSn nanowires were grown by chemical vapour deposition in a Vapour-Liquid-Solid regime. A move to a new tin precursor has dramatically altered the growth of the nanowires, resulting in fascinating branched and clustered wires. The cluster of wires in question were imaged using an FEI Helios NanoLab 600i operating at 30 kV and 1.4 nA in Tyndall National Institute.
