Maart Van Druenen

Maart graduated in 2015 with a BSc in Chemistry from University College Cork. She returned to the Materials Chemistry and Analysis Group as a Ph.D student under the supervision of Prof. Justin Holmes after working in the group as a summer research intern.

Current Research

Maart’s research involves the functionalisation of semiconductor surfaces focusing on silicon-germanium for Molecular Layer Doping (MLD), a non-destructive and conformal doping technique. Current doping methods lack control of the placement of atoms in the crystal lattice which will become problematic as device sizes are continually being scaled towards smaller dimensions. Her work will try to optimise MLD to work towards controlling the concentration and precise placement of dopant atoms in the crystal lattice which is known as deterministic doping.
